ANTI-AGING SERUM

Age spot phenomenon:

In the epidermis there are accumulations of keratinocytes which retain and accumulate the skin pigment melanin. Together with pigment cells (melanocytes) these keratinocytes grow downwards from the basal membrane into the dermis, where they form bud shaped micro-invaginations. The keratinocytes are no longer able to desquamate. It is assumed that a breakdown in the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) is responsible for this phenomenon. As well as the UV-induced skin pigment melanin, the aging pigment lipofuscin – a dark agglomeration formed by different cellular degradation products – is also responsible for the color of age spots. It has been demonstrated both in-vitro and in-vivo that vitamin C and its derivatives reduce the production of melanin.  This effect can be ascribed to the tyrosinase inhibiting effect of the ascorbic acid, which prevents the melanin formation process. In Anti-aging Serum stabilized vitamin C in the form of ascorbic glucoside is used to prevent the formation of the skin pigment melanin and thus counteract the occurrence of age spots. Zinc PCA is the zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid. Pyrrolidonic carboxylic Acid (PCA) is created from Glutamic acid, a natural amino acid. PCA is one of the main components in the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) of the skin, of which it comprises 12%. PCA is a highly hygroscopic substance which is used in cosmetics as a moisturizer. Through its association with the metal zinc, pyrrolidonic carboxylic acid acquires additional properties which are relevant for use in cosmetics:

• Sebum regulating properties • Collagenase inhibition, MMP-1 inhibition, increased collagen synthesis • Anti-bacterial effect When associated with vitamin C and its derivatives, zinc PCA has a further property: when applied to skin cells, the substance increases dose-dependently the expression of SVCT2 (sodium dependent vitamin C transporter 2). Hence the application of zinc PCA makes a higher quantity of vitamin C transporters available and alleviates some of the limitations in the transport of ascorbic acid into the skin cells. Zinc PCA takes on  the role of opening the door for the vitamin C. The vitamin C derivative can  be more easily taken up by the skin cells and can exhibit a better inhibitory effect on melanogenesis.  Olive leaf extracts,  serves as a significant active substance. Medical studies using olive leaf extract have come up with some astonishing results in recent years:

• Activity against viruses (e.g. herpes, influenza), microorganisms and yeasts (e.g. Candida albicans) • Reduces blood pressure and cholesterol • Improves the symptoms of skin diseases
• Oleuropein is highly relevant in combating age spots: in-vitro it has been shown that oleuropein in the Anti-aging Serum reduces the formation of the cellular waste product lipofuscin. This activity is due to the fact that oleuropein re-activates the cellular recycling factory, which only functions to a limited extent in aging skin cells.

Apply with fingertips using a few drops of product and work into clean skin using a circular motion for each affected area.
